چکیده

In this paper we propose a method for human joint torque estimation with surfaceelectromyogram (sEMG) during dynamic joint movements. sEMG measurement is non-invasive and costs less than external force measurement. Typical torque estimation methods from EMG are available for isometric movements. Our method works also during dynamic movement and outputs the torque timehistory data. Their proposed torque estimation method is tested with one subject. We measured sEMG related to the flexion-extension of the elbow joint torque computed. The root mean square error is lower than 5 % of the maximum torque. This result is comparable to recent research on isometric movement.

Development and evaluation of a musculoskeletal model of the elbow joint complex.

This paper describes the development and evaluation of a musculoskeletal model that represents human elbow flexion-extension and forearm pronation-supination. The length, velocity, and moment arm for each of the eight musculotendon actuators were based on skeletal anatomy and joint position. Musculotendon parameters were determined for each actuator and verified by comparing analytical moment-a...

Simultaneous and Continuous Estimation of Shoulder and Elbow Kinematics from Surface EMG Signals

In this paper, we present a simultaneous and continuous kinematics estimation method for multiple DoFs across shoulder and elbow joint. Although simultaneous and continuous kinematics estimation from surface electromyography (EMG) is a feasible way to achieve natural and intuitive human-machine interaction, few works investigated multi-DoF estimation across the significant joints of upper limb,...

Inter-joint coupling strategy during adaptation to novel viscous loads in human arm movement.

When arm movements are perturbed by a load, how does the nervous system adjust control signals to reduce error? While it has been shown that the nervous system is capable of compensating for the effects of limb dynamics and external forces, the strategies used to adapt to novel loads are not well understood. We used a robotic exoskeleton [kinesiological instrument for normal and altered reachin...

Inverse dynamics for 3 D upper limb movements . A critical evaluation from electromagnetic 6 D data obtained in quadriplegic patients

C6 quadriplegic patients lose the ability to use their triceps, but the arm flexors remain intact. However, they are still able to extend the elbow. A previous kinematics study showed that their pointing movements were very similar to those of healthy subjects. We make the hypothesis that the triceps is more likely to be used to ensure elbow stiffness than to provide an active elbow extensor to...

Multijoint reflex responses to constant-velocity volitional movements of the stroke elbow.

Multijoint reflex coupling could impact the voluntary control of functional arm movements in people post stroke. The multijoint responses to active-assist, constant-velocity movements of the elbow joint were measured in 14 individuals post stroke and 9 neurologically intact controls. Resulting responses in the stroke group illustrated a change in the reflex coupling of the elbow and shoulder mu...
